“There's a light at the end of the tunnel...”

Optimistic Sound is proud to present an exclusive new double A-side single by none other than Scottish soul legend and Average White Band founder/leader Alan Gorrie.

The single features a classically soulful and uplifting take on Michael Marra's “Letter From Perth” which references Alan's hometown, as well as “The Future”, an evocative Gorrie original written in tribute to Michael after his untimely passing in 2012. Backing on the two tracks is supplied by the Big Light Band, a studio ensemble featuring a few of Alan and Michael's contemporaries, alongside the cream of Dundee's young soul talent.

Recorded, mixed and mastered by producer Allan McGlone (Michael Marra/Danny Wilson), the two tracks stand as a wonderful tribute to Michael the man, his music and his poetry.

The single is the latest in a line of special fund-raising projects for Optimistic Sound, the registered charity set up in Michael's name by his family. Optimistic Sound is working hard to bring the revolutionary Sistema music programme to the city of Dundee to tackle poverty and to raise the aspirations and opportunities of our young people.

All proceeds from sales of the single will go directly to the charity.
